The rainbow feather headdress has beautifully colored pheasant feathers against black feathers in the crest and shiny black feathers in the base. The color is subtle but still very pretty.
The base of the headdress is made from molded leather to make a secure seat for the horns. This headdress uses a leather harness that buckles at the sides of the head and under the chin (the chin strap can be buckled behind the head in some cases).
Our mohawks are constructed with multiple layers of feathers. Every feather is placed so that the direction of the feather gives shape to the headdress. The horns are cast in thick resin cast from real antelope horns and filled with dense, closed cell foam. They are not the cheap plastic horns found in a costume shop. Be careful not to impale anyone.
The headdress is around 16-18 inches tall and without horns is it weighs 9 ounces. With horns it weighs a little over a pound. Most people are surprised by how light they are.
The leather harness is very secure once put on properly and allows you to tighten the headdress as much as you would like. If you are going to be in high wind conditions or any kind of performance where you will hang upside down for extended periods then this is the best option. The leather harness doesn't require any hair to stay on.
