Bison-
Heavy, thick leather that has a lot of thud and a lot of sting. Slightly more pliable than Bullhide but makes a very intense flogger. $$$
Specialty Leathers and custom tanned leathers-
I source leathers from around the world and now many of the leathers I use are custom designed and tanned just for Firebird Leather. These are a wide range of different animal hides and a wide range of sensations and you would need to see each item listing for this information.

Veg Tan leather-
NOT TO BE MISTAKEN FOR VEGAN. See my other blog posts for more info. Veg tan leather is vegetable tanned leather. Usually in the US this type of leather is known as a "naked" leather usually used for tooling that can be dyed by the leatherworker. It is a more eco friendly type of tanning method and factories in other countries that actually care about the environment are perfecting this technique wonderfully to the point where you cannot tell the difference from veg tan leathers standard (chrome tan) leathers. These veg tan leathers are not naked, they are sealed and already dyed and they cannot be tooled. They are incredibly soft and have wonderful colors and finishes. These leathers tend to be more expensive due to their rarity, but if you are trying to make an eco friendly leather purchase it is your best choice, especially above plastic faux "leather" alternatives which are very harmful to the environment.

Some notes;
The leather used in clothing like leather jackets or couches and upholstery etc is NOT the same type of leather used in floggers. The leather used in a jacket will make a really shitty flogger, so for those looking to "upcycle" things or consider that to be some kind of vegan alternative, just bear that in mind. I don't do this.
